Dear Families,
We hope your children enjoyed their fall lessons, pumpkin themed activities and classroom celebrations during the month of October. Thank you to all that were able to join us for Read for the Record , it was a huge success! Our students joined over 2 million others in reading “With Lots of Love” by Jenny Torres Sanchez, a story about family, finding ways to stay connected, and sharing love across distance. We participated in different activities surrounding the theme of the story.
Seeing our students enjoy their Halloween costumes and fall attire is one of the highlights of the year for us here at Discovery Isle. We had a wonderful turnout for our Halloween Parade. We are sorry not all families were able to make it, but please know there will be several more opportunities for gatherings throughout the year. We recognize it is challenging to leave work during the day and have made sure event times are varying so many are able to participate at one time or another. Thank you for allowing us to be part of these special occasions and please reach out should you have any suggestions for future events.!
For the month of November, we are focusing on gratitude and connecting with others. We also will be speaking with the children about what they are thankful for and what means a lot to them. Being thankful is a simple concept that takes no time at all, and it’s so rewarding to see that idea established in our students at such a young age. Children who show gratitude grow into community helpers, ambitious leaders, and super citizens of the world! I know we have several of those standing right before us in our classrooms each and every day!
The holidays are a time for giving, and as you know, our school is doing our part in giving back to those in need. We greatly appreciate all the parent support with these initiatives, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. The donations not only matter to those who receive them, but our students are so proud to help others. This December, we will be partnering with HOPE, North County to provide them donations of toiletries for woman and children experiencing homelessness while they rebuild their lives and reclaim independence. We are thankful for such a wonderful community, please see see attached for Discovery Isle’s Community Holiday Giving.
